CNN Don Lemon's says that hip-hop's "thug" behavior is hurting Black America, but he has five tips that can help turn things around.
Lemon made the comments over the weekend in response to Bill O'Reilly's claim that hip-hop culture was a negative influence on race relations in the wake of the George Zimmerman trial. Instead of criticizing O'Reilly, Lemon said that the right-wing pundit “doesn’t go far enough” in criticizing hip-hop culture. He then listed his own five tips for black Americans to improve their quality of life.
After Twitter exploded in claims that Lemon was a sellout and "Uncle Tom," the newscaster returned to the air on Sunday to say that he refused to apologize for his comments. He said, “What is wrong with telling people to dress appropriately? These are things that I said that my mom taught me in kindergarten, that parents tell their kids in kindergarten. Dress nicely, speaks well, speak appropriately.”
My Too Sense: You know a lot of people are criticizing Lemon, but how is this any different from what Bill Cosby has been saying for years?... And besides, is there anything wrong with Lemon's points? Or was the problem that he co-signed Bill O'Reilly?
